BECCA MARX: June 18th Hoot Preview — I’ve written a lot about The Hoot, hoping to convey it as the sounding board for musical experimentation that it is. I fear I’ve neglected another important element: the audience! I don’t know of a more neighborhood-friendly music spot than the Hoot at Harriet; people come in off the street, walk or bike from their nearby homes and often are netted and brought in. BECCA MARX: Hoot Report from Harriet Brewing, June 11, 2015 — Nakedness, for a singer songwriter to step away from their band, and into the solo spotlight can be an intimidating place, but more often at The Hoot, a place for growth. An invitation for an artist to explore the mist of uncertainty, to experience the feeling of a new song when it leaves their lips, and fills a room. I find it a privilege to witness that every week at The Hoot. Read more…

BECCA MARX: June 11th Hoot Preview — The Mad Ripple Hootenanny is fond of taking performers out of their element, and putting them onstage in next to nothing. This week in particular, you might see a different side of the artists, one that may be less familiar to you than their collaborative musical projects. BECCA MARX: May 21st Hoot Preview — The Mad Ripple Hootenanny on 5/21 happens to land on the holiday “National Memo Day.” To honor this day I’ll write a memo regarding the Hoot’s To Do List for you: 1. Enjoy a true troubadour’s return to the stage. After a musical hiatus Jonathan Delehanty performed this April with fellow singer/songwriter Luke Redfield and poet Drew Scott at The Icehouse. Read more…

BECCA MARX: Hoot Report from Harriet Brewing, May 14, 2015 — Thrilled to report that the Hoot was indeed “magical” as I’d predicted it would be! I am no soothsayer but the odds were in my favor with the line-up of Doug Collins, Katy Vernon, Jeremy Messersmith, Ananda Bates and Jillian Rae. There were some fortuitous moments as well, not the least being the pouring rain that brought us all inside, cozy-like. Read more…
